I love teamwork and having worked in many teams, but I know for some, the lead-up to the first meeting is definitely one of the most exciting but stressful times. To ease the introductions, I wrote this user guide to me for you get to know me a little more before we meet. I really appreciate you for taking some time to read this, and I would love to return the favour so feel free to share yours with me. Hopefully, this helps us set up our collaboration for success, and I look forward to working with you!
A successful team is a cohesive team where members feels comfortable together and overcome challenges as one. A successful project is one that meets the requirements and satisfies the client. Success of a team is key to the success of the team's project. I would like to seek perfection but not to the detriment of cost, time, effort, and other considerations necessary for sustainable team success. Furthermore, where there are more iterations, a success is also an opportunity to reflect, understand what worked, seek areas for improvement, and set new goals.
I am expressive, so I will make my voice heard. I'm also interested in listening to what everyone else has to say, so I strive to make opportunities for others to share their thoughts. Sometimes I think out loud in a stream of consciousness when I just need some time to pause and collect my thoughts. While I long for in-person meetings, my preferred platforms for video conferencing are Google Meet or Zoom, and Slack, Discord, Facebook, Instagram, or email for asynchronous communication.
I overthink and spend seemingly forever making even small decisions. I like to feel in control, so I prefer seeing or experiencing something for myself before believing it. I usually err on the side of caution because I am less of a risk-taker, so I feel comfortable sticking with things that are tried and true. If you are one to rush to try the latest releases, I can seem like an hindrance. I often prefer certainty over unknowns, so I hate getting surprised.
Communicating openly and being easy to reach will gain my trust. Fulfilling your commitments also gains my trust, but if unforeseeable circumstances compromise your ability to contribute, informing the team as soon as you realize still maintains my trust. Please do not hide problems until they get of hand, especially when it could have been resolved earlier at its roots.
Beyond engineering, my interests span music and sports where I often find unexpected connections to engineering. I love brainstorming and am good at coming up with new ideas. They may not all be feasible, but definitely help others think in new directions and find innovative possibilities. I enjoy meeting new people, making friends, and building connections between people with common interests and goals.
I may take on more than I can handle between school, volunteering, and personal interests, which makes it difficult to do my best in everything. I find it challenging to prioritize especially when importance does not correlate with interesting or fun, but reminding myself about my long-term goals helps me refocus.
